The Juliet's Story
A FEMININE FOUNDATION
Constructed in 1928, the building that now houses The Juliet was originally home to Luzier’s Special Formula Laboratories — a Kansas City–based cosmetics company that bridged science and beauty. Luzier’s was ahead of its time, creating some of the first color-matched makeup and skincare products in the United States and setting a new standard for personalized beauty.
At a time when few women worked outside the home, this space was created to employ women making products for women — a quiet but powerful statement of progress, empowerment, and artistry.
Designed with Intention
Founder Thomas Luzier commissioned architect Nelle E. Peters, one of the Midwest’s most prolific and trailblazing female architects, to design the building. Her vision stood apart from the stark industrial structures of the era.
Peters designed a space that was elegant yet functional — soft arches, thoughtful proportions, and architectural details that felt refined rather than rigid. It was, quite literally, a building designed by a woman, for women — reflecting beauty, strength, and purpose in every detail.
The Juliet wasn’t something we were searching for — she showed up at exactly the right moment, when we needed her and didn’t even know it yet.
The first time we walked inside, it didn’t feel like a business decision. It felt like a feeling. Like a breath. Like a space that had been waiting for someone who would love her deeply and treat her with intention. The windows, the light, the history, the charm — it was all there. She just needed new hands to carry her forward.
THE JULIET, TODAY
When the doors opened, it marked the beginning of a chapter we never expected. We were trusted with something that had been built, loved, and nurtured. And in that moment, we understood: The Juliet already had a story. An identity. A softness and a romance uniquely her own.
Rebranding or renaming her didn’t feel right — because she already meant something to the people who had walked through her before us.
